Curtain Bangs Curly Hair 23
hello are you here with me where are you i'm right here for you whether you are old or new welcome to the channel i am your main girl mel i am a hair stylist and today we're gonna cut some bangs not just any bangs though curtain bangs i'm going to break down what a curtain bang even is and what you should expect before getting curtain bangs so you can determine if they're going to be right for you and how they should be cut depending on your hair's texture so i have got my curly hair queens with me we've got purple pat and texture tammy and i will be using these girls to demonstrate for you different variations of how to cut curtain bangs in curly and textured hair so without further ado let's get into it okay so i am dying to get this hair out of my eyes but first let's talk about what even are curtain bangs are these curtain bangs yes are these curtain bangs yeah and are these curtain bangs yes curtain bags are some of the most versatile bangs that you can wear around your face and they don't always have to be bangs basically how we would describe curtain bangs is bangs that are shorter in the middle and longer on the side curtain bangs are pretty low maintenance because you can completely decide to grow them out and they will continue to grow out beautifully and maintain some of that soft face framing shape that grows into longer face framing layers this is why curtain bangs and the variations of it look beautiful on everyone we just need to consider these four very important things before cutting yes the factors you need to consider before getting curtain bangs number one what is your hair texture your hair's natural texture whether that is straight wavy curly or coily is going to affect how you cut the bangs so it's very important to consider what your natural texture is and how you're going to wear them for example maybe you have naturally curly hair but you prefer to wear it straightened then you would cut it for how you style your hair but if you style your hair curly you want to cut it according to your curls which i will show you number two you want to consider what is your face shape your face shape understanding what your face shape is is going to determine what kind of curtain bangs you want whether they are going to be shorter a little bit longer or even longer i have a full video on this so i will link that in the cards above so you can go check that out in this video for personal reasons uh i will be cutting the shortest form of curtain bangs which are going to be you know above the eyebrow framing around the eyes which is going to help to highlight the cheekbones as well something that i always like to emphasize now after your hair texture and your face shape you want to consider where you part your hair with curtain bangs what makes them so fabulous and especially trendy right now is that they look great with the middle parting curtain bangs don't work as well with side partings because you know she's completely different and if you do prefer to part your hair off to the side or you have very strong cowlicks and growth patterns that push your hair and part your hair naturally up away and off to the side then you maybe need to think twice about getting your curtain bangs or at least keeping them a little bit longer the fourth thing no one considers this when they are cutting bangs but you really should always think about what season is it is this really the time of year where you want hair on your face all i'm saying and asking you is to consider if you are going to be prepared to have hair on your face while it is hot and if not wait until the fall the fall is a prime time to get bangs we love it anyways those are the four factors that you need to consider before cutting your curtain bank now i will show you how girls not you deborah we get it you look great you already look great you and your miss curtain banks so i have got my curly hair queens with me we've got purple pat and texture tammy but first watch and learn as i demonstrate on i'm not gonna throw you i would never come here girls so sorry here as i am we shall begin this process you will notice that i am going to cut the framework of these curly hair bangs on dry hair that's right dry hair as we know curly hair reacts very differently when it is wet versus when it is dry when it is wet it looks much longer than it actually is so to prepare for the cutting you want to make sure that you style your bangs forward as if they're already cut that way that way you can see how they naturally lay on your head and determine where they should be cut now my hair that i'm going to be cutting is actually several days old but you can absolutely do this on fresh day one hair that has just been washed just be aware and think about how your hair reacts when it is dry for example my hair when it is very moisturized it tends to be a little bit more weighed down a little bit more elongated but as it gets drier and dried out as the days go on my hair can spring up a little bit more and get even bouncier and a little bit shorter in length so that's why i want to make sure i'm doing this when my hair is really dry and not super moisturized and hydrated and elongated and before we move on i do want to make note that if your hair has been damaged and you have textured pieces that are really damaged on the ends but curlier at the root go slow because once you cut off those damaged ends you may notice that your hair bounces up way more than expected as well so you also need to take that into consideration okay now i think we can start cutting i'm going to start with my shortest piece first which is going to be in the middle remember curtain bangs are short in the middle two longer on the sides and this hair when i look at where it lays on my head it is right at the tip of my forehead and because of the way my head is shaped and my forehead is shaped this hair in the front naturally lays forward that's one of the reasons why i know i'm also a very good candidate for the shorter curtain bangs that frame more of my eyes if you have a higher hairline sometimes it can be difficult to get the hair to fall and lay forward and down and so to see what hair really wants to fall forward place a flat comb at the top of your head and wear that comb lifts off of your head all the hair before that is really what is going to work well in the bangs now i shall take my fatties these are my puffins shears these are professional hairdressing scissors not that you need to use these if you are not a professional however do use the sharpest scissors you can find because not sharp enough scissors can cause split ends you don't need that negativity in our lives this time holding my shears this is how i'm cutting the hair this is where i'm cutting the hair right in this c shaping of my curl i am going to cut see where the curl is and i'm going to cut in the middle of that boom and that is one curl done now we're going to bring out the sides a little bit at a time right against my forehead here i'm going to grab the neighboring curls and i am grabbing them as they are clumping however if it feels like a really big section i am going to separate that curl right there always easier to cut a little bit of hair at a time now i can see how these are laying i can see what c shaping i want to cut in and i'm going to stretch and beside it i'm going to go a little bit longer oh oh damn see and now that i have my shorter center sections when i look at the side i need to determine now if these need to be cut and honestly they don't i'm pretty much liking how this angle is going i really want to keep some of the length on the sides because the longer the size the longer your curtain bangs the more kind of slimming effect it's going to have on the face and take down your next hair again neighboring to your middle section which is always the shortest curl i'm going to separate them as necessary and take a look again where it is laying on my head and that's going to help me determine the length i should cut you see i like to grab hair up until my temples and i also want that to pretty much be the longest part of the bang and i'm basically just continuing this pattern now i had my shortest second shortest this is going to be another notch longer and that is my first layer of my hair and for my preference for the look that i'm going for i really want to keep these soft and wispy i do not want heavy bangs because in my curl pattern and my texture it can look really overwhelming and really poofy if i keep too many curls short so from here i'm now going to let all of this other hair down let me shake this up perfect and from here i can see which hairs are falling forward that are going to cause a problem so i'm just going to gently separate them you can see i'm left with this little triangle and i'm going to now cut some of these as well only the pieces that are in my eyesight and vision and from there before i continue cutting and getting too scissor happy i recommend re-styling your bangs so you can see how they're going to react and then you can go ahead and continue to adjust them and be right back okay and these are now the bangs after a little bit of refreshing everything seems to lay exactly where i want it i feel fresh i feel fresh but let's take a look at how we would do this on Layer Cutting For Curly Hair other textures let's say you're a little bit more wavy or you have a curl pattern but it's still hair that can be easily kind of straightened out and maybe you like to wear your hair both ways this is purple pat and we styled her entire front bang section which includes this u that we took a look at on my hair as well forward you can see with her hair there is some overhang as well but how would we cut this notice how without disturbing the curl clumps too much i'm still separating the hair so i'm going in layers and on wavy hair where the curl chunks and clumps and curls are a little bit bigger i'm going to take about a one inch section at a time layering that over the forehead and then as always starting in the middle with that shortest piece and notice how i am cutting on an angle you never ever ever want to cut blunt straight across keep the scissors on an angle for that softer look which is really what you want with a wispy kind of curtain bang this is how i am first carving out the bangs and then i will go in and do any point cutting as necessary until i have got that nice u-shape around the eyes and then i can take down the next layer i will continue to add more hair on top depending on how heavy i want the bangs or rather how heavy pat wants the bangs and then once she's done we can see how it looks on her wavy curls with this texture of hair you can absolutely blow them out and so if that is the case especially if you have very unruly bang and cowlicks then instead of styling the bangs curly you're going to want to do this technique with a brush that is either round or even your denman brush and do what's called a wrap dry so you're brushing the hair in both directions with the blow dryer side to side then forward and then flipped back and keep doing that until you have gotten the shape and you can go in and point cut from there just like how these bags would be cut on straight hair as seen on debra here lots of versatility with wavy hair lots of different options and these bangs really do look great whether the hair is both styled curly or straight but now let's look at hair that's a lot more coily same thing i'm taking that section all around the hairline this time because tammy's hair is a tighter curl the section is not as big as pat's on wavy hair i'm almost letting each curl down individually so i can see where they lay and really shape to get that you umbrella rainbow face frame effect really taking my time to carve into the sea of the curl shorter in the front longer to the sides and really making sure that i keep the sides long enough to maintain that rounded shape of the curtain bank now after all of that i hope you found this guide to the super trendy curtain bangs very helpful if you did like this video please make sure to give it a thumbs up and if you want to see more videos like this check out my hair cutting playlist and don't be shy subscribe so that Curtain Bangs Curly Hair 2.
oh we're back to the old background gotta switch it up every now and then just so that i keep you on your feet welcome hey i've never seen welcome or welcome back to my channel all right before we get started let's talk about the song but we can wait real quick real quick some of you are going to laugh at this some of y'all are going to find it accurate some of you are going to be like what are you talking about but let me tell you that the song of the week is surface pressure from the movie encounter fight me the girls who get it get it and the girls who don't don't fury listen listen if you haven't seen the latest disney pixar movie encounter i highly suggest you do it's way deeper than it appears but the soundtrack babes i mean not the soundtrack what the original songs ten out of ten especially that song that song is my favorite oh and the girl who actually sings the song it's uh jessica darrow that's all i have to say let's move on all right so as you saw by the title of today's video you already know what we're gonna do today yes it's that time of the year i guess we're gonna be cutting today my curly wavy curtain bangs yay so before i even start um let me define what curtain bangs are because they come in various lengths and they look different depending on your hair texture they can be pretty on long and like swoopy or they can be pretty like short and then they get longer around the edges that's basically what a curtain bang is the point of curtain bags is to give a more framing look to the face and since i have um not the most voluminous hair out there i really do need that like help from curtain bangs i already had curtain bangs the last time i got a curly cut which was back in november and they looked good my hair what my hair would my face was pretty much framed and the haircut was pretty rounded so i loved it but the bangs were not short enough so they grew incredibly quick like in a matter of a month they were already too long for my liking so of course new year fresh new look i guess i don't know and i'm not gonna do it blind i'm gonna be doing it using once again the tools that mel has given us on her youtube channel and i'm gonna be following this specific video titled hairstylist guide to cutting your own cotton bands on curly hair in that video she demonstrates how she cuts her curly bangs on her own curl type on wavy hair and then on coily hair so obviously i'm just going to be following the wavy part not the first time we follow a maze by mel video i did this one last year where i did the pigtails haircut and it was fantastic that haircut held me down for like a couple of months until i finally got to go to my curl stylist so i trust her i trust her she wouldn't mislead me the cut is already done i'm hiding it right now on my clips but you're gonna see you're gonna see what i'm gonna be dealing with let's let's get started here we go again with this all right so my bangs are already separated from the rest of my hair or what i think might be my bangs i think i grabbed way too much hair because i don't want my bangs to be so heavy so let's start watching mel's video this is purple pat and we styled her entire front bang section which includes this u that we took a look at on my hair as well forward okay okay see that part with the comb that's that's what we gotta figure out because i think this is my u but i think it's too much so according okay don't don't come at me for this comb i don't know what happened literally all the little teeth just decided to i don't know pluck out but anyways okay so i'm holding the comb on top of my head and what's supposed to be my bangs is what falls after the comb so in my case it's from here and onwards from there and onward so all this other hair i shouldn't really count it as my bang so let's try to eliminate it okay so i think that now this is my new you let's do a second test let's put the comb again here to see if it falls there yeah here this should be it okay okay close enough we can take off a little bit more hair so now i'm left with this this you and it feels a whole lot better it feels lighter it feels like okay this kind of makes sense all right yay we did it it still feels like curtain bangs brown curly hair quite a bit of hair like it's it's quite a lot so let's go over to the next step but how would we cut this notice how without disturbing the curl clumps too much i'm still separating the hair so i'm going in layers and on wavy hair where the curl chunks and clumps and curls are a little bit bigger i'm going to take about a one inch section at a time layering that over the forehead and then as always starting in the middle with that shortest piece and notice how i am cutting on an angle okay she's curtain bangs curly hair talking a lot she's throwing a lot of information at me at the same time okay okay so the first thing she did was separate layers so that i can start on the hairs that are on the lower on the bottom of this chunk but honestly like i don't know if i'm doing it right i might i mean okay i think i can add more hair to this okay okay let's call this my bottom layer so i'm gonna clip this back the rest of my bangs and we're gonna start with this okay on the mannequin that she's using like the bangs are already there all she's doing is just like retouching them but i don't have bangs at all like i mean these are layers these are not bangs i'm scared but since the point of the curtain bangs is that they are shorter towards the center and then they elongate towards the sides i think i'm going to start with my center piece i'm scared honestly because since my hair is always parted in the middle you see what the bangs do automatically they're already parted in the middle like it doesn't really stay in the center so this is a risk but it's okay we're going to start we're going to start we're going to start right away it's just hair actually i'm going to start maybe at the nose length like at the tip of my nose and as miss mel said we should cut at an angle instead of just cutting straight okay okay that wasn't too bad here are the tips of what i just cut i'm gonna spread it around and see how i like it for now like if i put this to the side would i hate
layer cutting for curly hair, it would i hate it no it's not bad and once i style these i think it should look better okay i'm gonna take this a little bit shorter instead of like at the tip of my nose i'm gonna do it on the middle okay um we're not gonna go shorter than that that's as short as we are gonna go and it's right here in the middle and i think that once i style them they might shrink a little bit more so i'm not gonna go any shorter than that let's eat a bit maybe we can cut the sides up to he like the middle of my cheek or maybe yeah i think the middle of my cheek is good i'm getting way too comfortable with these this is a problem look at that if any hairdressers are watching this sorry i'm sorry okay let's cut this one same length i do like this length because once i style them they're going to shrink a little bit so they're going to go up here but if i don't want them on my face i can throw them to the side and it's gonna be okay like it doesn't look crazy i mean it looks crazy now because they're not styled but trust the process until i have got that nice u-shape around the eyes and then i can take down the next layer i will continue to add more hair on top depending on how heavy i want the bangs or rather how heavy pat wants the bangs the actual next step is to take down more of the bangs the next layer as she said okay this is the next layer okay so i got one little curl here that goes more towards like the middle so that one i should cut almost at the same length as the other ones and then these side ones i'm gonna cut a little longer than this so maybe down here and this one too i'm gonna cut it like around my jaw okay this is what we're dealing with so far we got shorter layers here medium layers here and longer layers down here curly hair curtain bangs okay okay so she said that like you should continue adding layers but depending on how heavy you want the bangs and since i want them to be pretty light i think i might just leave it at that i don't know let me let me see how it looks with another layer or actually how it looks without like if i put this to the side how would it look see i think that's enough that's honestly enough i don't want to add more layers but i'm going to take out the rest of my hair right and see what falls to the front and actually quite a lot falls to the front so i do have to cut these two it's fine it's okay it's okay i'm doing it so that you see how it goes and if it doesn't work for me then you know you shouldn't do it but if it works for me maybe you should do it i think the next step is gonna have to be styling so let's move on to the styling portion of this shall we okay so let's start off obviously by courting these girls okay they're wet honestly my hair is so thin that once it's like wet it looks like i barely cut any but you saw how much hair i cut like this is a significant amount okay i'm gonna put a little bit of this product right here this is the garnier fructis curls cup pearl sculpt conditioning cream gel i'm gonna run it through and now i'm going to try to shape these by finger coiling if you missed the video where i explained how i do finger coiling sit down it's such a quick little tutorial all right so we're going to grab the piece of hair of course now we're going to take the hair between our thumb and our index finger you're gonna go as far as you can to the tip of your hair wrap that little tip around the index finger you're gonna trap it with your middle finger until you can get your other index finger in there so now it's like trapped you see it's like a like a circle there and that circle is the one that you're gonna start rolling and that's it that's how you finger coil babes you can hold it in there for like a couple of seconds and then just let it down and see now it's like clumped up better it has better shape so i'm gonna do the same thing to the other half of my bangs and we'll move forward for these very short little pieces finger coiling might be a little bit too hard because they're so short so if you want to finger roll instead go ahead babes whatever works for you doing it in little baby pieces can help like the curl or the wave activating in them you just put them down and give it a little shake and after you do your finger rolling or your finger coil whatever it is you can just give them a little scrunchy scrunch a little shake kind of place them wherever it is that you want them to fall and then you can either decide if you want to air dry them or diffuse them i'm going to diffuse them because i can't i can't wait to see the results okay i'm nervous oh my god hi welcome back okay so this this is how we're looking right now i honestly do not hate it but i am struggling already because as i mentioned my hair is so used to being parted in the middle that like my bangs do that as well which is not bad if i want to keep my bangs to the side because they sit very well here to the side like there is fine it's perfect but if i want to keep them like towards the middle it's more of a struggle because yeah i can't get rid of that middle division if you also struggle with that like if you ever got bangs but couldn't get rid of that or like if you did how did you do it please tell me let me know what is the secret like do i always have to brush them to the front for my hair to get used to it being in the front i don't know i do love how they look to the front though because they're so light see they look so wispy and cute i like it i like it but honestly i don't know if i'm gonna last very long wearing them to the front because of the middle division you guys tell me what do you think does it look good should i keep trying or should i just do what i originally had planned which is wear them to the side also i think these types of bangs look so much better on me than the ones i had last time that i went this short she was not giving she thought she was given for a minute but then she very very quickly realized she was indeed not giving they were a little bit too heavy they had more hair these are more wispy more light and i like them and they don't bother my eyes which is another big thing yes indeed yes indeed thank you so much queen mel for guiding me through this back journey i think we did it we have some really cute curtain bangs that i can wear to the side just like this or i can finesse and wear them in the front i like both looks honestly they give two completely different personalities but i like them they're so cute but yeah they'll say thank you so much for watching till the end thank you so much for helping me reach my 10 000 subscriber goal i'm so happy and i can't wait to keep creating for y'all yucky me young keep me happy don't forget to keep
